Hiking Backpack Guide – How to Choose a Backpack. Find Backpacks on Sale.

Hiking Backpack Guide – How to Find the Best Backpack to Hit the Trails With. Discover the perfect backpacking backpack just for you!

How to Choose a Backpack

Choosing a backpack can be an overwhelming task, whether it’s your first time out hiking or you are a seasoned pro looking for something new. There are so many brands and styles available it can be really hard to decide what might be best for you.

This is a little more difficult when buying online because you don’t actually get to try the pack on and test it out. I suggest ordering at least a month in advance.

This will give you time to load your new bag up and hit some nearby trails to test it out. If it doesn't fit or feel right, send it back and get another one.

Get started with tips on how to fit a backpack.

Guidelines to follow when deciding how to choose a backpack:

  • Cost - This is definitely an important factor. Set your budget and stick to it. Some bags can be extremely pricey at over $500 while others can be as low as $150 or lower and be perfectly comfortable as well as durable. Check out cheap hiking backpacks to get more tips.

Sales - Get around those heavy prices by having the patience to wait for backpacks on sale and special promotions. Below you will find an assorted variety of packs that are all on sale! Check’em out, but don’t wait too long when you find the right one because these sales don’t last forever.

  • Quality - How to judge quality depends on a couple of things:

Comfort - It’s important to note that knowing how to pack a backpack properly will reduce almost all discomfort that people typically associate with their packs. Instead of blaming a perfectly good bag, just learn where to put heavy things vs. lighter things and what to do about organization and all the different sizes and shapes.

Sometimes there is no denying that a backpack just doesn’t fit or feel right, so make sure to follow this hiking backpack guide and order with plenty of time to send it back and get a different one if need be.

Brands - Let’s face it, some brands are more prestigious and have a history of making extremely superior packs. These are The North Face, Osprey, Mountainsmith, Kelty, GoLite, High Sierra, Black Diamond, Sierra Designs, Mountain Hardware, and Granite Gear.
